Cydcor Case Study

The Client

Cydcor is a fast-growing field sales organization serving large telecom and energy industry clients across the US and Canada

The Challenge

Cydcor had attempted adoption of Agile and scrum, with limited success. They were unsatisfied with their progress on 3 key strategic software project initiatives:

  • Salesperson recruiting platform, scalable with corporate and franchise recruiting functions
  • Risk identification and mitigation analytics data mart
  • Legacy homegrown enterprise resource planning (ERP) application being refactored and extended to support multi-client/multi-project billing

PWP was engaged to provide Agile training, coaching, technical program management and application architecture services for a six month period.

The PWP Solution

PWP performed a detailed assessment and provided Cydcor with the following services:

  • Trained and coached 3 software teams, a number of product managers, SMEs and company leadership on Agile adaptive planning, Quality Assurance, Requirements Management and agile/scrum delivery
  • Coached Cydcor in establishing their initial software quality department, as well as assisting Cydcor in defining the roles and duties of the QA team, as well as staffing the QA organization with top-notch talent and adopting product software development QA best practices.
  • Provided technical program/project management, requirements management, QA and application architecture services for key 2014 software delivery projects.
  • Facilitate the company’s adoption of the Microsoft Team Foundation Server for Agile/scrum requirements backlog management and Agile iteration/sprint management
  • Worked with Cydcor leadership and team members to encourage agile team collaboration, accountability and empowerment. PWP identified a number of leaders and potential leaders across the software and business teams and worked with them to develop their “servant leadership” approach and skills.

The Results

All three key initiatives initial minimum viable product releases were completed according to aggressive schedules within the 2014 calendar year.

Ben Floreen, a senior business process analyst with Cydcor graciously summed up the results of the engagement as follows:

“For any business that is seeking radical transformation, I cannot recommend Paul Reed strongly enough. Paul is an invaluable repository of information. His knowledge and experience run both deep and wide. One thing that makes Paul unique is his ability to work as either a coach on the sidelines or a player on the team. He switches between the two effortlessly, getting in the trenches and contributing or standing back and giving direction as needed. Additionally, Paul is highly adept at creating buy-in at all levels of an organization. He engages everyone regardless of their experience, answers their “why” questions, and teaches them to achieve unprecedented results. In the short time he was at Cydcor, Paul drove more institutional change than any other consultant we hired during my 7 years with the company. Most importantly, instead of allowing people to become dependent upon his expertise, Paul created leaders across the business and empowered them to deliver long-term value without his ongoing involvement.”
