Chicago Based Fortune 500 Retailer Case Study

The Challenge

The client’s Online Business Unit was struggling with Agile project planning, Agile requirement management practices, ineffective Agile testing and poor team morale. They had approximately twelve teams distributed throughout Chicago, Orlando, Minsk and Pune that needed to be coached and integrated where rapid time to market was important for the various projects’ success.

Our Approach

Working with the client’s specific needs in mind, Paul Reed worked with client staff and Thoughtworks team members as an Agile Coach and Mentor. He supported the client and Appliance Parts, Commercial, Wireless and other teams. As a result of Paul’s embedded coaching and support, the various teams were able to significantly improve their Agile Release Planning, Quality and Requirements management (via user stories) practices The agile teams worked with a Lamp open source technical platform including ROR, mysql, Linux and cucumber. Additionally, Paul filled in as an Acting Delivery Manager for multiple product delivery teams while the client searched for qualified Full Time employees.

The Results

Thanks to the team’s talent, stakeholder and leadership support as well as Paul’s many years of Agile coaching experience, the client was able to meet its need for improved agile practices and more predictable delivery.
